Three Spots to Wine and Dine in Guadalajara, Mexico

In Guadalajara, Mexico the rise of the wine culture combined with its thriving food scene has some really cool wine bars popping up. In alphabetical order here are three that we think you should visit if Guadalajara is on your travel plans:

    La Matequería

If you are looking for a spot with neighborhood bar vibes this is your place. This cozy wine bar has an awesome selection of wines from Mexico as well as some really good international options. During our visit, something that caught our attention was that Sassicaia was available on their wine by the glass dispenser program. We would describe their menu as a fusion of Mexico, Italy, Argentina and Spain. From their extensive menu you can order a plate of Mexican cheeses, pizza, some delicious Spanish ham and an Argentinian alfajor for dessert. Besides their Guadalajara locations, you can also find them in Cancún.

    La Vid Cava y Copa

This beautifully designed space focuses on wines from Italy, Spain, California, France and Mexico. With a carefully curated program of wines by the glass, here you can explore wines from some of the best producers in the world without having to incur the cost of a bottle. Some wines available  by the glass that caught our attention were: Darioush Cabernet Franc Signature, Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pie VI, Antinori Tignanello and Stag’s Leap Cask 23. To accompany your glass of wine you can choose a few tapas from their diverse menu. If you happen to be a cigar person we encourage you to visit the cigar bar immediately next door which has an incredible selection of cigars and which was the inspiration for the wine bar.

Rayuela - Bodega de Vino y Tapas

Focused on highlighting wines from the old world, including some hard-to-find jewels from small producers, this bohemian restaurant also offers a delicious array of tapas and main dishes to accompany your wine selection. Some of our favorite bites were the mussels in cream sauce, the pastrami sandwich and the Picaña beef. The restaurant is spacious but with its soft lighting and warm decoration it exudes an intimate experience. They also have an outdoor patio if dining al fresco is what you are looking for.
